The Church of Saint Pascal Baylon l 1757 Conway Street l Saint Paul, Minnesota 55106 FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK Our Gospel reading this weekend comes from John, Chapter 6 for the fifth Sunday in a row. Next Sunday we will return to the Gospel of Mark for our Sunday Gospel reading. The sixth chapter of John s Gospel is known as the Bread of Life Discourse because Jesus repeatedly refers to himself as the Bread of Life. This Sunday s Gospel passage is from Chapter 6, verses 60-69, and we are told that many of Jesus disciples leave him and return to their former way of life because His teachings are difficult to accept. It is not easy to follow Jesus, and we are asked to take up our cross each day and follow Him. Although following Jesus is not always easy every day and at every moment, following Jesus will lead us to eternal life. Please keep Father Tony Andrade and his mother, Benedicta, in your prayers. Benedicta passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial for her was celebrated on Thursday, August 16 at the Church of Saint Peter the Apostle in Barkur, South India. If you would like to send a note or card to Father Tony, his mailing address is: Church of St. Thomas Aquinas, 920 Holley Avenue, St. Paul Park, MN 55071. This week we welcome back our School Faculty and Staff as they prepare to start the new 2018-19 school year. The first day of School for students is Tuesday, September 4. The teachers will be here this week to prepare their classrooms, meet with other teachers and staff, and set their goals and plans. I am grateful to our School teachers and staff for their important work and ministry here. Charlie Turns 13. My miniature poodle, Charlie, turned 13 years old on August 23. He is in good health, but his veterinarian tells me that the tremors in Charlie s rear legs likely indicate that he has pain in his joints and back. The pain does not stop Charlie from wanting to go for a walk three times a day. I give him a glucosamine pill each day to help relieve his joint pain. For those of us with pets of whatever breed or type, taking care of our pet s health and wellbeing is a responsibility and duty that God has given to us, and caring for our pet is how we show them our gratitude for their love and trust. God Bless You, Father John Mitchell The Fall Festival is Back! Sunday, September 23 from noon-5:00 PM Spaghetti dinner, craft fair, pie shop, children's games, food & drink items and more! We nurture this gift from God by leading children to recognize this gift and by teaching them that we pray to God to increase our faith. loyolapress.com St. Pascal s School Supply Drive Supporting students, teachers & our school Many families are struggling. With high unemployment, and more than 40% of our students enrolled in the free and reduced meal programs, many parents are unable to provide the basic school supplies their children need to be effective. You can help our children in school by giving them the tools they need to succeed. Help our teachers by providing them with proper tools for their classrooms so they don t have to spend money from their own pockets.
